Autofridge 41 Litres 12/24V DC Highly Efficient Fridge/Freezer

"Australian Made and Designed DC Eutectic Refrigerator/Freezer"

Comfortably run this system on an 80Watt Solar Module
The Autofridge is the highest quality low voltage refrigerator/freezer available. It is designed specifically to withstand conditions that only the Australian outback throws up, including rough, seemingly never-ending roads or weeks of unrelenting 40?C heat. The Autofridge handles these challenges with ease using the lowest power usage available. Having the lowest power using refrigerator means that you will save money on the cost of solar panels, regulators and batteries for this unit!

Performance

The Autofridge has been designed and manufactured in Australia to suit Australian conditions.

  • The interior cabinet and the exterior construction of the Autofridge are white fiberglass ? this colour is the best for hot climates and the integral strength of the material for use in rough conditions has been proven by its long term popularity for boat manufacture.
  • The compressor chosen for use in the Autofridge is the latest German built Danfoss BD 35 F unit and controller. This compressor has been selected because of its remarkable efficiency and is supplied as a spring/rubber mounted unit ? suitable for use in any off-road conditions.
  • The eutectic operation of the refrigeration system allows you the luxury of knowing that in ambient temperatures of up to 32?C the daily power consumption of your fridge is on overage only 20 Ah per day (24 hours). This of course means that you can easily determine how long you can remain stationary before recharging your battery.

Characteristics

The Autofridge comprises a compressor driven refrigeration unit, combined with the power saving advantages of a eutectic system (ice bank). Eutectic fluid (cold storage compound) surrounds the four walls of the interior cabinet, acting as an ice bank, which in turn refrigerates the contents of the cabinet.

Once the Autofridge has been run to properly charge the eutectic ice bank and chill the cabinet, the fridge only needs to be run for around 2 hours each morning and again for 2 or 3 hours each evening to keep the eutectic ice bank charged and maintain the desired temperature - even in very hot conditions.

After the fridge has been run for the suggested time it can be turned off, with the eutectic ice bank providing continuous refrigeration resulting in NIL power consumption during this holdover period. This means that no battery power is required during overnight stops, thereby eliminating potential battery problems. And in fact an auxiliary battery dedicated to run the fridge in this way is not necessary at all.

The Autofridge eutectic refrigeration system will operate in temperatures in excess of 50?C with enough refrigeration capacity to cope with these high temperatures and a high use demand. The fridge does not require an insulated bag to assist its operation in hot weather.

The cabinet is constructed from fiberglass and all surfaces are finished in white to assist in the reflection of heat. Fittings and fastenings are mainly stainless steel and anodized aluminium. The internal refrigerated chamber is also constructed from smooth white fibreglass with no exposed refrigeration components or tubing fitted to the chamber.

The lining is easily cleaned and if spillage occurs, there is no evaporator or cold plate to trap spillage or be damaged by cans and other objects while traveling in rough conditions.

The Autofridge can be operated in any of the following ways

  • Comfortably run this system on an 80W solar panel! As a eutectic refrigeration system ? the Autofridge is run for a total of 5 hours per day ? split into two separate running periods of 2 hours in the morning and 3 hours in the afternoon. The Autofridge is turned off in the interim, averaging a daily power consumption of approx 20 Ah/day at 12 V. This method is recommended during periods when the vehicle is not being driven.
  • As a cyclic refrigeration system ? the Autofridge thermostat is set to a refrigeration setting and left to cycle on and off throughout the day. Average daily power consumption for this mode of operation is approx. 24 ah /day.
  • As a cyclic freezer the Autofridge is set on one of its sub-zero settings (5, 6 or 7) on the thermostat ? the higher the setting the colder the Autofridge will cycle ? and left to cycle on and off though out the day. Average daily power consumption for this mode of operation is approx 40 Ah/day at 12V. It is recommended that the fridge not be turned off during overnight stops but just turned back to setting 3 or 4 overnight. This will reduce power consumption and keep everything frozen.

The efficiency of your vehicle or marine electrical system can greatly affect the operation of any low voltage refrigeration. How you intend to use the Autofridge and other appliances including DC lights will determine whether an auxiliary battery should be installed.

An Autofridge power pack (AFPP 10F) is available for operation of the Autofridge with 240VAC.
