- Rock band Linkin Park have kicked off an initiative in an effort to bring light to some of the 1.3 billion people around the world who do not have reliable and safe access to electricity. Power The World aims to supply solar powered lights to 1 million families in Haiti by the end of 2012. Read more.

- Qatar, located on the north-easterly coast of the Arabian Peninsula, provides free electricity to its citizens. The nation of 1.4 million people also has the highest per capita carbon footprint in the world – almost three times that of the USA. Read more.

- Competition and global price cuts on components make it a great time for Australian households to install solar panels on their roofs. Solar power system prices have been slashed by over 70% in the past 12 months according to the Australian Solar Energy Society. Read more.

- South Africa’s first Concentrated PV plant is supplying electricity for the 17th annual conference of the Parties climate talks in Durban, South Africa. Manufacturing company Soitec constructed the 500kW facility in just a month. Read more.
