Queensland Sunshine Coast Apartments Go Solar
Four 6kW solar power systems have been installed on the penthouses of Mooloolaba's 'Beachcomber On The Spit' luxury apartments.

Installed by Evolution Solar Sunshine Coast using components sourced from Energy Matters' sister company, Apollo Energy, the project was a challenging one given the nature of the rooftop area.

Due to the height involved and access issues, a crane was required to lift the 96 REC solar panels onto the roof ready for installation.

Each system consists of 24 REC 250W Peak Energy Series modules with a 5kW SMA Sunny Boy inverter. Both REC and SMA were chosen due to their outstanding performance.

REC has been the recipient of multiple awards and recognition. Ongoing testing of 46 solar panel brands during all seasons and light conditions by Photon Magazine during 2011 found REC solar panels to be the best performing panel.

SMA are widely regarded as producing the best solar inverters for residential and commercial applications.

In total, solar panels now cover 158mē of the apartment complex's roof space and will be generating clean electricity for decades.

During the project, other work was being performed the penthouse units; which added extra complexity. Mother Nature also threw in a few unwelcome surprises.

"The new roofing job was delayed slightly with all the rain and flooding the Sunshine Coast has received however, the installation team powered through and got the job done. In addition to the installation, the Evolution Solar team had to upgrade the four sub-boards and do pre-wiring as the roof was being constructed," says the company.

Locally owned and family-run, Evolution Solar Sunshine Coast consists of a branch in Mooloolaba on Brisbane Road and another in Noosaville on Eumundi Road.

Beachcomber On The Spit is located between Mooloolaba Beach and Mooloola River.
