Schott Solar AG recently announced the extension of guarantees on its solar panels

Effective from September 21 2009, and covering products that have left the warehouse since August 24, 2009; Schott is now offering a 25-year performance guarantee on glass-foil panels and a 30-year guarantee on its double glass solar panels.

Additionally, Schott Solar has implemented what it calls “continuous plus tolerance”. This ensures all Schott solar panels belonging to a performance class generate at least the nominal power listed.

Schott is one of the world’s oldest brands. The company was established in the 19th century, originally focused on glass products. In 1884 Otto Schott developed new optical glasses and provided the scientific basis for developing specialised glasses.

Schott’s solar division has 51 years of experience within the solar industry. 1958 saw the company begin producing photovoltaic solar cells for space travel and in 1980; Schott began development of thin-film solar cells. Schott has also been a major player in the solar thermal industry since the 1980’s and delivered more than 23,000 receivers for the first European solar power plant in the south of Spain.

A Schott Solar PV system installed on the roof of the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems (ISE) building in Germany has been in operation for 24 years. After well over 2 decades, testing shows extremely low degradation – only 5.5 percent on average.
