Yingli Unveils Utility Solar Panel

Yingli Solar announced last week it had developed a framed utility-scale solar panel designed for a maximum system voltage of 1500 Volts.

Created with large scale solar farms in mind, the new panel improves system performance and reduces balance-of-system (BOS) costs; decreasing the number of components such as home run cables, combiner boxes, and fuses needing to be used.

Among the first 1500V solar panels to be housed in an aluminium frame, the panel’s solar cells feature an extra layer of protective coating to provide high resistance to Potential Induced Degradation (PID).

The company showcased the module at the Intersolar North America trade show in San Francisco last week.

“This new utility-scale panel was developed in direct response to our partners’ requests for 1500V solar PV solutions, which we expect will soon become industry-standard,” commented Mr. Liansheng Miao, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Yingli Green Energy. “We are proud to be among the first PV manufacturers that are able to meet this demand.”

Another leading manufacturer to offer 1500V panels is Trina Solar; which recently reported it was one of the first module manufacturers to have received UL1500V certification from Underwriters Laboratories (“UL”) for its TSM-PE05A and TS-PE14A polycrystalline solar panels.

In other recent news from Yingli, the company announced it is supplying 240 megawatts of solar panels for Latin America’s two largest hybrid solar photovoltaic and concentrated solar power plants. More than 780,000 multicrystalline utility-scale YGE 72 Cell Yingli solar panels will be used in the projects. The first power plant is expected to be operational by mid-2016.

Headquartered in Baoding, China, Yingli Green Energy has shipped more than 13 gigawatts of its solar panels to customers worldwide.

One of the world’s largest solar panel manufacturers, Yingli has experienced challenging times recently, but in the first quarter of this year the company reported it had shipped 754.2 MW of solar modules, up more than 19.6 percent year on year. The company has forecast shipments for this year to reach approximately 3.6GW.

Yingli Solar is a vertically integrated manufacturer; producing ingots, wafers, solar cells as well as solar panel assembly.
