Educational toys that will teach your children about renewable energy

Our kids are the future of our planet, so their education must include climate change and renewable energy.

While the fight against climate change has already started, the next generation will have a huge role to play when the torch is passed onto them. They must learn about issues like greenhouse emissions, conservation, recycling, green energy sources and more to be empowered and continue the fight.

Our role is to ensure that the children of tomorrow have all the resources they need today so that they can be sustainable leaders tomorrow.

We want our kids to inherit a sustainable world

Climate change is real and has been established as a fact by scientists around the world. We already see the impact, with freak weather event lashing countries all around the world.

A recent report released by the United Nations1 revealed that we could avoid the direst consequences of climate change if we halt global warming at 1.5°C. The world is already 1°C hotter than it was around a century ago, so limiting that rate of warming will be a challenge.

If we don’t act, we are going to leave a world for our children that include:

  • Rising sea levels: Water levels could rise as much as 55cm and impact more than 1 billion people by 2050.
  • Coral bleaching: If global warming exceeds 2°C, then the Great Barrier Reef and all other coral systems worldwide will be virtually wiped out.
  • Ice caps melting: There could be more regular ice-free summers in the Arctic, which will significantly impact the weather.
  • Heatwaves: Over 2.7 billion people could be exposed to deadly heatwaves once every five years.
  • Flooding: More frequent and heavier rain and snowfall will mean 170 per cent more likelihood of flooding.
  • Animal decimation: As habitats die around the world, numerous species will as well.

Your actions will determine your children’s behaviours

Kids are going to imitate their parents’ behaviours and adopt their values in most instances. So if you have an established recycling routine that they are involved in, for example, then your kids are more likely to recycle when they are adults.

If you adopt solar solutions, your children will grow up understanding the value of renewable energy and are more likely to adopt these technologies themselves.

Why action speaks louder than words

It is a fact that kids learn through play, so it is never too early to introduce them to the concepts of climate change and renewable energy. Energy Matters stocks a wide range of educational toys like the solar-powered DIY Building Science Experiment Kit and children’s books like The Sun Is Kind of a Big Deal by New York Times bestseller Awkward Yeti.
