Energy Matters Episode 8

We wrapped up Season 1 of Energy Matters with a jam-packed episode.

Flinders Island, off Tasmania’s coast, is the perfect case study in hybrid energy. Hydro Tasmania took us on a grand tour of the Hybrid Energy Hub—powering local homes and proving how renewables can enter the energy mix at scale.

We also heard a cautionary tale from homeowners on the importance of choosing the right battery. Enter the Anker SOLIX X1 home energy storage solution—keeping the lights on through blackouts and beyond.

Next, we zipped to Sydney Showground for the latest in electrification, from EVs to off-road machines, at Everything Electric NSW.

And finally, we stepped inside Roshan’s home. We saw how he and his family achieved electrification and carbon positivity with a few smart changes, AIKO solar panels, a GoodWe hybrid inverter, and one seriously impressive battery system.

Coco's Corner

Coco showed us how woodchipping around the home can do more than just tidy up the garden – it’s a win for your backyard and the environment.

Woodchips help soil retain moisture, meaning you’ll water less often. That’s great for your plants and your water bill. They also suppress weeds, so you spend less time pulling them out – and more time enjoying your outdoor space. Plus, using natural mulch like woodchips reduces green waste and gives organic matter back to your soil.

Sustainable living doesn’t have to be complicated. Small changes in the garden can grow into big benefits. How can you make your outdoor habits more eco-friendly?

A message from Roshan

As they say, all good things must come to an end. But what an amazing inaugural season it was! I must say, we certainly finished it up in style.

Visiting Flinders Island was inspirational. The team at Hydro Tasmania really rolled out the red carpet for me and the crew and we got to see a part of Australia few see. Knowing that the locals are primarily relying on solar and wind power gives me hope for Australia at large.

My friends, Jarrod and Luana, gave me the grand tour of their newly renovated home. What a beauty it was, and the solar and battery system they have is going to save them so much money over the coming years. The X1 from Anker SOLIX is not only powerful but really sleek and sexy! I was there when Resinc Solar powered up the system and Luana’s face was priceless. She didn’t want another ugly battery taking up space, and Anker SOLIX delivered a slim and aesthetically pleasing unit.

I missed out on Everything Electric NSW this year as Cyclone Alfred rolled on through. Thankfully the crew were able to safely fly into Sydney and capture the incredible event. It’s so fantastic to see how far we’ve come and how the general public are really embracing electric vehicles and e-mobility.

Finally, we stepped into my own home! The tour was a long time coming and I was so excited to show off all my new toys! More importantly, it was a privilege to share with you all the small and big steps you can take to lower electricity bills and take a hold of your own energy future. Reducing our impact on the environment is also incredibly important to me, and I hope I’ve inspired you to assess how you can move towards carbon positivity.

I wish to thank every single viewer and reader for making Energy Matters the success it has been. I cannot wait for season 2… stay tuned!
