Industrial-Inspired Suburban NSW Home Inspires: Episode 1, Open Homes Australia

Have you watched the latest episode of Open Homes Australia? Season 6 premiered last Saturday on Channel 9Life and it was impressive! One of the featured homes, designed by Edgecliff Homes in Harrington Park, NSW, caught our attention. James Treble, designer and friend of Energy Matters, visited Cassy King’s beautifully designed home, which also serves as a display home for Edgecliff Homes, whom Cassy works for. Cassy wanted to infuse an industrial feel into her suburban home, which was evident in its blended concrete and brick exterior.

As you enter the house, you’ll be greeted with a spacious entryway lined with concrete walls, creating a stunning first impression. The house’s overall colour palette consists of black, white, grey, and earthy tones, creating a minimalistic and elegant feel. The lounge room on the ground floor is impressive, with an open layout and an oversized lounge suite that wraps around the room.

The ceiling in the void exceeds 7 metres, accommodating the 16-person dining table, which was a must-have for Cassy’s Christmas lunch plans! The concrete kitchen island bench, weighing 2.5 tonnes, is an elegant and stylish statement piece.

The upstairs portion of the house is carpeted to achieve soundproofing. The sunlights in the roof, and windows throughout the home, provide natural light that illuminates the rooms. James was curious about how the family heats and cools the home, given the dark exterior and the numerous windows. Cassy opted for solar power to reduce the costs of running the house and minimise her family’s carbon footprint. Roshan Ramnarain, resident solar expert and CEO of Energy Matters, recommended going large when installing a solar system to maximise the return on investment. Cassy chose Case Statewide Solar to install the whopping 23kW solar PV system with 49 solar panels, taking advantage of government incentives and rebates.

Finally, James took a tour of the James Bond-inspired swimming pool, complete with a large window into the pool. This futuristic and awe-inspiring house is an excellent example of marrying industrial and minimalist design, creating a spacious and elegant home that is sure to inspire.

You can catch the encore of Episode 1 on Wednesday at 12pm and Friday at 10am, only on Channel 9Life.
