Solar power grant for Victoria’s Vietnamese community

Solar power uptake boost for Australian Vietnamese Women's Association.

Solar power uptake in Victoria’s Vietnamese community is receiving a funding boost.

The Australian Vietnamese Women’s Association (AVWA) and the Yarra Energy Foundation will receive a $100,000 State Government grant to buy solar systems.

The project will use a Vietnamese language campaign to target 86,000 Vietnamese residents and businesses.

It will, therefore, increase uptake of rooftop solar panels by promoting solar energy as a green, affordable source of power.

Financing options will also be offered to community members to help them buy solar power systems.

Energy fund boosts solar power uptake

The funding is part of the Andrews Labor Government’s New Energy Jobs Fund (NEJF).

The AVWA and Yarra Energy Foundation received the grant in the second round of the $20 million NEJF.

In Victoria, the Labor Government received many submissions for renewable energy schemes. Applicants are in addition providing innovative ideas for projects supporting a clean energy future.

The Government is positioning Victoria as a state leader in new energy technologies including solar panels and energy storage batteries.

In addition, the fund is a key part of Victoria’s $200 million Future Industries Fund. This supports industries that are high growth and high value.

The new clean energy field is helping Victoria build a forward-looking and competitive economy.

Solar power delivering new Victorian jobs

Under the New Energy Jobs Fund, the Government is also finding new ways to help Victorian communities and businesses develop projects, including solar storage systems.

Subsequently, Government and business will work together to support a clean energy future.

According to Lily D’Ambrosio, Minister for Energy, Environment and Climate Change, Victoria is committed to a green future.

“Renewable energy is vital to Victoria’s energy future – making energy supplies cleaner, attracting investment and creating jobs,” she said.

“This project combines the AVWA’s expertise in translation and community engagement with the Yarra Energy Foundation’s track record in delivering solar projects.”

In round two the New Energy Jobs Fund received over 50 applications.

As a result, 21 successful projects received a total of $6.7 million in grants.
