The future direction of renewable energy deployment and funding in Europe will be discussed by government ministers and energy industry heavyweights during a three-day alternative energy forum to be held in London next month.

The debate-style forum begins on October 19 and will be chaired by CNBC’s Steve Sedgwick. The conference will serve a primary role of informing public opinion and will include presentations on issues such as peak oil, wind farming, the future of solar PV, concentrated solar power, and wave and tidal energy generation.

Twenty-nine industry experts from the international renewable industry community will present and discuss solutions and case studies, while other streams include infrastructure, finance, clean transport and green cities.

The forum boasts an all-star line-up of European power-brokers. Energy ministers from Spain, Portugal, Denmark, the UK and Christine Lins, Secretary-General of the European Renewable Energy Council (EREC), will join in debates with key clean energy lobbyists, including Greenpeace’s Executive Director, Kumi Naidoo. Topics tabled for debate include:

– Where is the money coming from to fund the renewable energy revolution?

– How can government and industry work together to develop necessary low carbon energy supply?

– What are the environmental and cost implications of converting to renewable energy to the world’s fastest growing economies?

Steve Sawyer, Secretary -General of the Global Wind Energy Council, says wind energy is a key element in the battle for significant reductions in carbon emissions.

“As Europe considers moving towards a 30% emissions reduction target . . . this timely conference highlights the key role that offshore wind energy can and must play in order for Europe to meet its energy security, economic development and emission reduction objectives”
