Sungrow Continues Its Inverter Onslaught

The world's third largest solar inverter manufacturer is continuing to power ahead.
The world’s third largest solar inverter manufacturer is continuing to power ahead. Sungrow recently announced it shipped 3MW of PV inverters to Japan in early January 2014, which will be used in commercial rooftop solar power systems around the country. More recently, a solar farm located in the California desert featuring Sungrow’s 500kW SG500LV inverters commenced operations. With a maximum efficiency of 98.5% and local and remote HVRT/LVRT/ZRT/FRT capabilities, the SG500LV central inverter is able to operate at full capacity in a temperature range of -25C – +55C. “We’re looking forward to building stronger relationships with our North American partners and continuing to providing excellent engineering services and cost effective solutions,” said Mizhi Zhang, CEO of Sungrow Canada Inc. The company was also recently involved in drafting technical requirements, test methods and inspection rules of grid-connected solar inverters in China, which will take effect on August 15 this year. Closer to home, Sungrow is best known for its residential solar inverters; which are transformerless units offering surprisingly high efficiency and quality for an inverter in this price range. Sungrow solar inverters used in Australian installations are also backed by a 10 year warranty Founded in 1997, Sungrow has in recent years greatly accelerated its production capabilities and has now reached more than 7GW of inverters shipped globally. Sungrow raced up global inverter manufacturer rankings in 2011 by 12 positions to reach number 5. The company attained the number 3 position in 2012; behind only SMA and ABB (Power-One). Recent analysis from IHS Technology puts Sungrow at number 5 for inverter shipments during just last year. Listed on the Shenzhen Stock Exchange, Sungrow was listed as #9 in Forbes’ Chinese Public Companies with the Most Potential in 2012. Sungrow currently employs more than 1,000 people, 30% of whom are research and development engineers.
