We’re hoping the Federal Government and the Renewable Energy Target review panel don’t read this article – it seems ‘forced photovoltaic drainage’ is another evil trait of solar panels.
According to National Report, boffins at the Wyoming Institute of Technology have discovered that energy radiated from the sun isn’t just harvested by solar panels, but that energy is directly physically drawn from the sun by those panels in a process they refer to as “forced photovoltaic drainage.”
“If every home in the world had solar panels on their roofs, global temperatures would drop by as much as thirty degrees over twenty years, and the sun could die out within three hundred to four hundred years.”
Forced Photovoltaic Drainage was also covered by another fine news source; The Onion – which alerted us to the fact that the Sun doesn’t come with “free refills”.
The Onion’s coverage also warned of the evils of wind turbines. It seems these offensive devices could knock the Earth off its axis and send us hurtling towards the (greatly depleted thanks to solar panels) Sun or away from it.
Add to this the threat of wind-in-brain disease and it becomes clear that renewable energy is truly the work of Satan.
Of course, both the National Report and The Onion items are just satire and it’s clear the claims are ridiculous. However, so too are some of the ‘facts’ being bandied about at the moment with the intention of disembowelling Australia’s Renewable Energy Target – and coming from parties who should (and in some cases, do) know better.
The RET review was recently branded a “stitch-up designed to cut renewable energy and support the Coalition’s mates in big power companies,” by Solar Citizens.
“It’s a complete waste of taxpayer time and money to fund an attack on the renewables industry,” says Lindsay Soutar, Solar Citizens National Director. The last RET review was completed just 18 months ago.
The renewable industry and its supporters haven’t been idle in the face of the threat to Australia’s Renewable Energy Target. Solar Citizens states more than 5,200 copies of the 2012 Climate Change Authority’s review of the RET have been sent to the review panel, in addition to over 22,000 community submissions.
