Episode 5 of Energy Matters took us from GoodWe’s epic headquarters and manufacturing facilities in China to the depths of the Poatina Power Station where we saw hydropower in action from Hydro Tasmania and their retail arm, Momentum Energy.
We also explored two homes: Bec Douros and her newly renovated home with solar and battery storage and then James Treble’s home, a complete renovation with LONGi solar panels.

Coco gave us some really useful tips around the three Rs: Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle.
Coco reduces paper waste by using her writing book folder to collate all of her work.
Reusing a metal water bottle reduces plastic waste. And purchasing grocery items that are packaged in recyclable materials reduces Coco’s family’s impact on the environment.
How can you reduce, reuse, and recycle in and around your home?
My time in China was so exciting, overwhelming, eye-opening, and fascinating. John Wright from GoodWe rolled out the red carpet as he gave me and the filming crew a grand tour of the all-new GoodWe headquarters and one of their manufacturing facilities. Seeing how GoodWe uses all of their solar products to power their HQ was incredibly inspiring. The factory floor was nothing short of a well-oiled machine. The human touch mixed with precision robotics is really what sets GoodWe above the rest.
Tasmania is gorgeous but made even better as the team at Hydro Tasmania gave us a thorough tour of the Poatina Power Station. I must admit, my understanding of hydropower was rudimentary at best, but I left Tassie with a sound understanding of hydro’s powerful position in Australia’s energy market. Thank you to the team at Hydro Tasmania and Momentum Energy for giving all of us a greater insight into one of Australia’s oldest forms of renewable energy.
Visiting James Treble’s home was like walking into a designer’s masterclass. What can I say – the guy knows what he’s doing! His choice of solar panel was spot on and showcases how the right panel will not only save you money but can add to your home’s aesthetics.
Bec Douros truly is a lovely person and her renovated home is testament to her eye for detail. Integrating solar and battery technology has set her and the Douros family up for energy independance into the future.
What an awesome and jam-packed episode! I cannot wait for Episode 6. See you all next week.
