Australia’s clean energy report card for October

CER proposes change to federal solar rebate amount

The Clean Energy Regulator has released its clean energy report for October.

Queensland continues to dominate in a national tally that is currently tracking higher than September.

There were 7412 small-scale systems installed nationally in October, with a total capacity of 37 991 kW. The report also found that:

  • Queensland has the highest level of small-scale installations across Australia with 1911 systems installed so far in October (figures are still coming in).
  • Queensland had the highest number of commercial sized solar PV systems (10-100kW) installed in October, with 131 systems installed.
  • There were 409 commercial sized solar PV systems (10-100kW) installed Australia wide in October.
  • 88 solar PV systems also had a concurrent battery storage installation in October.

New South Wales installed 1679 small-scale systems in October. This is higher than last month, and the figure represents 23 per cent of the total number of installations Australia-wide.

Victoria installed 977 small-scale systems in October, which is higher than last month. It represents 13 per cent of the total number of installations Australia-wide this month.

At 1857, Western Australia had the second highest level of small-scale installations across Australia – 25 per cent of the total.

Top postcodes for solar in the national clean energy report

The top post codes for solar include:

  • Banora Point (postcode area 2486) is the top performing suburb in New South Wales in October with 22 new installations.
  • Boondall (postcode area 4034) was the top performing suburb in Queensland in October with 21 new installations.
  • Mount Barker (postcode area 5251), Mount Gambier (postcode area 5290) and Craigmore (postcode area 5114) were the top performing suburbs in South Australia in October with 12 new installations each.
  • Mildura (postcode area 3500) was the top performing suburb in Victoria in October with 21 new installations.
  • Canning Vale (postcode area 6155) was the top performing suburb in Western Australia in October with 43 new installations.

Going commercial with solar

Tasmania had four commercial sized solar PV systems (10-100kW) installed in October. Reflecting a growing need for storage, two solar PV systems also had battery storage installation in the Apple Isle.

Queensland had 131 commercial sized solar PV systems (10 – 100kW) installed in October, with NSW following with 83 and Victoria with 67.

The results are perhaps a reflection of state governments taking on their own renewable energy targets. This is despite the Federal Government still insisting that fossil fuels are necessary for the ongoing security of the grid.
