SMA’s Solar Inverter Business Powers On

Solar power inverter market leader SMA has announced that the first half of 2010 was the most successful half year in the company's history.

Solar power inverter market leader SMA has announced that the first half of 2010 was the most successful half year in the company’s history.

“Due to our high power of innovation and unique position in the solar market, we closed the first half year of 2010 with record results,” said Günther Cramer, Chief Executive Officer of SMA.

SMA’s financial report covering the six months from January to June 2010 shows group sales of AUD $1.164 billion (current exchange rates) and an inverter output capacity of 3.1 GW sold, with 1.9 GW of that figure occurring in the second quarter alone.

While the main demand for SMA inverters came from the German photovoltaics market, the company says demand was also recognisable in foreign markets and notes North America and Australia were among the most important foreign markets.

SMA’s Managing Board expects substantial growth of the global market to up to 14 GW for 2010, compared to 8GW in 2009. The company intends on increasing production levels and on the expansion of its technology and market leadership throughout the remainder of 2010.

SMA also noted it has been the recipient of several awards in the first half this year, including an Intersolar Award for the Sunny Central 800CP and an innovation award for its new three-phase multi-string inverter Sunny Tripower at the 25th Photovoltaics Solar Energy Symposium in Bad Staffelstein.

SMA inverters are a popular choice in solar power systems installed in Australia. SMA produces inverters for grid connected solar arrays as well as inverters for off-grid solar power systems.
