The filming of Leonardo DiCaprio’s latest feature movie, Inception, was given a helping hand courtesy of the sun via the world’s largest mobile solar power system.

Constructed by Pure Power Distribution, the S48T is  The system is the first to be able to power a typical movie base camp exclusively with solar power.

Approximately 15 metres long and 3.5 metres wide, it incorporates 3 24,000W Xantrex inverter banks, 3 2,550 Ah deep cycle battery banks and is decked out with 7,200 watts of solar panels. The solar panels can be adjusted throughout the day to track the sun via a manual electric tracking system.

The S48 is designed to replace a 1,400 to 1,800 Amp diesel generator, which release approximately a tonne or more of carbon dioxide per day of running.

Inception isn’t the first movie to be produced with the assistance of solar energy. Pure Power has just supplied a system for a 5th feature film, providing clean solar power to the base camp of Steve Carrell’s latest feature film project and last year provided solar power to the Criminal Minds set.

Pure Power Distribution has partnered with the Environmental Media Association (EMA) to help entertainment companies green their productions using clean, mobile solar power.
