Phono Solar is a company that most Australians wouldn’t be familiar with – but may be hearing a lot more from soon.

Phono Solar Technology Co., Ltd., was founded by SUMEC Group Corporation, part of the powerful China National Machinery Industry Corporation (SINOMACH); a Fortune 500 company.

Producing solar panels since 2004, the company established a 250MW advanced production line last September, boosting its annual production capacity to 450MW in total.

Phono Solar has just announced its solar panels have passed a PID (Potential Induced Degradation) test conducted by the Berlin Photovoltaic Research Institution (Pl-Berlin) with flying colors.

Phono solar panels have been awarded a Grade A rating – the highest level that can be obtained – which requires that the reduction of power generation be less than 5% upon at the end of the test.

Pl-Berlin’s test, which Phono Solar says is the most stringent in the world, consists of exposing solar modules to temperatures of 85°C and relative humidity of 85% while applying a voltage of 1000V for 48 hours. Phono Solar states its modules were successfully tested for an extended time of 96 hours, with no attenuation in power output.

“Customers are increasingly paying close attention to the degradation of modules over time,” said Phono Solar’s Yuan Qan. “These results, obtained from an authoritative third-party testing institution, provide a clear demonstration that Phono Solar can assure the power output of modules and further guarantee to users an investment of income for at least 25 years.”

Phono Solar also operates its own testing center, covering an area of 1,300 square meters. The company says the facility can run 27 tests and to standards higher than IEC and UL.

In other recent Phono Solar news, the company has inked a deal with the world’s second largest solar inverter manufacturer, Power-One, to market and sell solar powers systems worldwide bundling Phono Solar panels with Power-One inverters and monitoring.
