Two 20MW solar farms in Tennessee will feature SMA Sunny Central inverters.

SMA was selected by Strata Solar to supply 36 Sunny Central 800CP-US inverters for the facilities, which combined will generate  63,125 MWh of electricity annually. Each facility will incorporate 81,000 solar panels.

Strata Solar has over 300 MW of PV installed and more than a gigawatt under development; putting it among the biggest solar providers in America. The company has recently installed nine utility-scale solar projects across North Carolina; capable of supplying the power needs of 5,000 households.

“We are honored to be a part of Strata’s newest utility solar farms in Tennessee,” said Henry Dziuba, president and general manager of SMA America. “The Sunny Central inverters selected for the Selmer and Mulberry plants will help Strata achieve maximum power production and system reliability.”

With a peak efficiency of 98.7 percent, SMA states the Sunny Central 800CP-US outperforms all other inverters in its class.

In other recent news from SMA, the company has launched the new Sunny Boy Smart Energy in Germany. Sunny Boy Smart Energy is the first wall-mountable, mass-produced solar inverter that incorporates a lithium-ion battery with a capacity of approximately 2 kWh. The Sunny Boy Smart Energy concept was awarded the Product Innovation Prize at Intersolar 2013.

SMA will be presenting its innovative energy independence solutions at Intersolar Europe from June 4 to 6, 2014, in Munich. The line-up will also feature Sunny Central Storage; a megawatt-class battery inverter.

SMA remains the global market leader for solar inverters and is represented in 21 countries. Last year, the company shipped 5.4GW capacity; retaining the top spot in what is becoming an increasingly competitive sector. SMA inverters are a common sight in Australian residential and commercial solar installations.
