Clean Energy Council’s 100th approved solar retailer

National battery standard applauded by CEC.

The Clean Energy Council (CEC) is celebrating its 100th Approved Solar Retailer under a scheme designed to give customers safe choices.

The Approved Solar Retailer program helps Australians choose a solar company committed to safe, quality solar installations.

As a result customers receive a minimum five-year whole-of-system product warranty. They also enjoy customer service over and above the industry standard.

The CEC’s is the only industry program of its kind authorised by the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC).

Solar Homes program demands CEC approved solar retailer

CEC oversight is critical in an environment where Victorian and South Australian governments are offering financial support for solar installations.

The Victorian government’s major new Solar Homes program will need workers with the highest levels of safety and quality assurance to meet increased demands.

All solar panel and hot water systems installed under the program must meet Australian Standards and be approved by the CEC. The program will also use only CEC accredited installers to maintain safety and quality standards.

Solar companies such as Energy Matters have full CEC accreditation for both product and installation.

Solar Victoria monitors industry standards

An independent body called Solar Victoria has been set up to manage the Solar Homes program.

Solar Homes will subside solar energy systems for 650,000 Victorian homes over the next 10 years. The $1.24 billion scheme will halve the cost of a solar installation for eligible households.

The Victorian government will also provide half price solar batteries for 10,000 households if re-elected in November.

In South Australia, the recently announced Home Battery Scheme offers a maximum $6,000 on battery installation.

Stringent safety standards required for CEC accreditation

More people are installing solar panels because of rapidly falling costs, according to CEC Chief Executive Kane Thornton. This requires more stringent quality and safety standards.

It also calls for responsible sales and marketing, he said. Best practice is also essential to ensure the solar industry maintains its integrity.

Regular audits by the CEC on solar retailers will ensure high standards of quality and safety as Victorians and South Australians make the most of their state governments’ windfalls.
