Revolutionary Solar Panel Hits Australian Market

Melbourne, Victoria, December 11, 2008. Energy Matters, a leading provider of renewable energy systems in Australia, today announced a partnership with Sanyo for the distribution of Sanyo’s 205 Watt HIT Solar Panel; a revolutionary hybrid solar module designed specifically for grid connect solar power systems.

Energy Matters spokesman, Max Sylvester, states the Sanyo HIT panel is a combination of a monocrystalline structure and an amorphous layer; the first such hybrid panel available on the general market in Australia.

According to Mr. Sylvester; “Up until recently, the choices available in the Australian market were either a polycrystalline/monocrystalline panel, or a thin film amorphous module; each having their own strengths. The Sanyo HIT brings the best of monocrystalline and thin film technologies into one module – a very small, amazingly efficient panel with a very low temperature coefficient.”

The Sanyo HIT (Heterojunction with Intrinsic Thin layer) solar module is constructed of a thin monocrystalline silicon wafer encased in ultra-thin amorphous silicon layers. This results in several advantages according to documentation from Sanyo, such as high performance at high temperatures when compared to high performing conventional silicon solar cells. Sanyo states cell efficiency of up to 20.2% and an overall module efficiency of over 17.7%.

The smaller footprint of the Sanyo HIT solar module also allows for the installation of more capacity within a limited area while being environmentally friendly through the use of less silicon material.
