Suntech’s New Wd Series Polycrystalline Solar Panel

Solar panel maker Suntech Power Holdings Co., Ltd. has unveiled a 60 cell multi-crystalline solar module called the "Wd".

Solar panel maker Suntech Power Holdings Co., Ltd. (NYSE: STP), has unveiled a 60 cell multi-crystalline solar module called the "Wd".

The new Wd solar panel series offers a positive peak power tolerance of 0/+5 watts, assuring that the modules will generate at, or outperform, the nominal power rating.

The new 60 cell module weighs around 20kg and the company says it will be ideal for customers that have plenty of roof space, but want to avoid the challenges of mounting a heavier 72 cell module.

According to Andrew Beebe , Suntech’s VP of Global Product Strategy, "We believe this will be one of the most reliable modules on the market and well-suited to operate in extreme weather conditions."

The 60 cell Wd panel will be available in two power ratings, 220 watt or 225 watts. In addition to positive peak power tolerance of 0/+5 watts, the new panels will also feature the latest IP67 rated junction box with enhanced thermal isolation, 4mm thick glass and a  50mm aluminium frame.

The Wd module series will be backed by Suntech’s 25-year power output warranty, and has also received the IEC 5400Pa certification, verifying the panels’ ability to withstand high wind-pressure and snow load.

The Wd panel is currently available in European and Asian markets. A firm Australian release date is unknown at this stage, but is expected to occur in 2010.
