REC Group has recently achieved the esteemed EcoVadis Silver Medal, a testament to its unwavering dedication to environmental, social, and governance (ESG) practices. This recognition elevates REC into the top echelon, placing it among the top 15% of companies evaluated in the global electronic goods manufacturing sector [1].

Jan Bicker, CEO of REC Group, expressed heartfelt appreciation for the recognition, “We are extremely proud to receive this medal and I would like to thank our whole ESG Steering Committee and all the passionate REC colleagues for all their efforts. We believe that as the solar industry grows in importance, so does our responsibility to be more sustainable too. For almost 30 years, REC has therefore strived to combine high-efficiency technology with sustainable business practices. And we will keep on going.”

EcoVadis achievements and recognition

EcoVadis, renowned for its meticulous business sustainability ratings, scrutinises companies across 21 sustainability criteria grouped into four core themes. REC Group distinguished itself particularly in the realms of ‘Environment‘ and ‘Labor & Human Rights‘, showcasing a steadfast dedication to sustainable operations and ethical conduct. Bicker underscored REC’s longstanding mission to fuse cutting-edge technology with sustainable business practices, a mission that has propelled the company forward for nearly three decades.

REC’s sustainability commitment is further underscored by its robust performance across six out of seven EcoVadis indicators. The company’s advanced Energy, Water & Waste Savings Programs, alongside its unwavering focus on upholding high employee welfare standards, garnered noteworthy acknowledgment. This accolade reaffirms REC’s position as a frontrunner in ESG excellence and its pivotal role in forging a more sustainable future.

Prioritising performance and sustainability

Despite REC Group’s emphasis on innovation and high-power densities in solar panels, the company emphasises the importance of considering broader factors beyond mere power and price. “While high efficiencies will remain the number one criterion for choosing solar panels, we urge homeowners and businesses to look beyond power and price only,” continues Bicker. “Sustainability and responsible practices should also be taken into account if consumers are really serious about making a positive contribution for all, the planet and the people. By choosing REC Group, customers can be confident that they are investing in products of a company that prioritizes both, performance and sustainability.”

Governments worldwide have begun implementing stricter ESG regulations, commencing in 2023. This includes 35 nations and regions, accounting for 56% of the global GDP, rolling out mandatory ESG reporting like CSRD in the EU or SEC climate disclosures in the US [2]. REC encourages consumers to delve deeper than conventional criteria when selecting solar panels, emphasising the imperative of sustainability for making a positive impact on the planet and its inhabitants. As governments mandate ESG reporting and consumer awareness surges, REC remains steadfast in its commitment to delivering high-performance, sustainable products.
