A NSW government program lets customers switch energy providers quickly and easily to get a better deal.
The Energy Switch website allows customers to upload their current bill, receive feedback on alternative providers and switch to a better plan if they wish.
NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian says the switch can happen in minutes with the click of a mouse or a chat with Services NSW staff over the phone.
The Premier says Energy Switch could help households save hundreds or even thousands each year on their electricity bills. The government claims the average saving through the website so far is $550, but could be as high as $1,600 in some cases.
How Energy Switch works
Using the Energy Switch program involves a three-step process:
- The customer uploads their current bill to the site. The bill needs to be less than 12 months old.
- The program compares the customer’s current plan with that of other NSW providers. The customer then gets details of the three cheapest alternatives.
- If the customer decides on a better plan, they can request to switch over from their current one immediately.
The comparison step provides details and features of each plan, including solar compatibility. This means people with solar installations can also take advantage of the program.
According to the NSW government, the plan is not just a “comparison website” because it is actively involved in the changeover from one retailer to another.
