Solar power system owners and supporters across Australia have been encouraged to participate in Solar Citizens’ latest survey.
The 2016 survey will compile a snapshot of solar support and ownership in Australia, with the results to be sent to politicians and decision makers across the country.
After a very successful 2015, the group also wants to set its sights on an equally productive year.
“To make this year’s campaigns the hardest hitting yet we need to hear from you. We want to know what you love about solar and why you think it’s best of Australia, what the big issues are for you and where we should take the fight next,” says Solar Citizens National Director Claire O’Rourke.
“2016 is a federal election year and we’re preparing to supercharge our efforts to grow and defend solar, but there are powerful interests who stand in our way. That’s why we need to build our movement stronger than ever in 2016.”
The survey only takes a few minutes to complete and can be found here.
Solar Citizens provides a voice to everyone interested in solar power in Australia and membership is free.
Some of its activities have included advocating for Australia’s Renewable Energy Target, actions against attempts to implement “solar taxes” and other schemes that would unfairly disadvantage solar owners.
Currently the organisation is urging Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull to “stand up for solar“; calling on him to set a goal of 50% renewable energy by 2030, to end discriminatory fees and make solar accessible to more Australians.
Originally launched in 2013 with the assistance of sponsors including Energy Matters, membership of Solar Citizens has swelled to nearly 80,000 today.
“We support a vision of an Australia where a major portion of our electricity is generated from the sun, where the rights of solar owners are protected and where all Australians are able to install solar on their homes,” says the organisation.
Another important date coming up on Solar Citizen’s calendar is Solar Supercharge 2016; which runs from the 13th to 15th of February. Members and other interested parties from around Australia will gather in Brisbane to participate in a national summit on Australia’s clean energy future.
