Solar Power Grants For Victorian Lifesaving Clubs

Community Renewables Solar Grants Initiative

Lifesaving clubs in Victoria can now benefit from a new program to support the installation of solar power systems – the Community Renewables Solar Grants Initiative.

The $500,000 program was announced by Minister for Energy and Resources Lily D’Ambrosio on the weekend.

“This is about helping Victorian lifesaving clubs save money on their energy bills and driving renewable energy,” said Minister D’Ambrosio.

“By partnering with Life Saving Victoria on this program, we can help our lifesaving clubs cut their energy costs and increase renewable energy generation in Victoria”.

Life Saving Victoria CEO Nigel Taylor praised the initiative.

“Electricity represents a major operating cost to all of our clubs. By having solar panels installed, this will provide significant financial relief to our organisation,” said Mr. Taylor

Member for Albert Park Martin Foley has encouraged all local lifesaving clubs to apply for a grant for solar panels.

The program is apparently up and running and applications can be lodged immediately. At the time of publishing, further information didn’t appear to be available as yet on the State Government of Victoria’s or Life Saving Victoria’s web sites.

According to Energy Matters, a 5.3kW solar power system installed in the Melbourne area could provide a life saving club a financial benefit of up to $1,861 a year; with the savings going towards the clubs’ other activities and projects.

In other recent renewable energy news from the Andrews Labor Government, a New Energy Jobs Fund information workshop was held at the East Gippsland Shire Council offices in Bairnsdale on Friday.

Grants of between $50,000 and $2 million are available to support new energy technology projects.

“Renewable energy is vital to Victoria’s energy future – making energy supplies cleaner, attracting investment and creating jobs,” said Minister D’Ambrosio.

“We can build a strong, sustainable energy industry that powers our broader economy, creates well-paid jobs and delivers health and social benefits, while reducing our environmental impact.”

Up to $5 million is available in the first funding round, which closes on March 16.
