City of Moreland Reaches 10MW Of Rooftop Solar Panels

City Of Moreland - Solar Power

Recent figures from the Clean Energy Regulator show the City Of Moreland in Victoria is a hotbed of solar PV activity.

The City of Moreland comprises the inner northern suburbs between 4 and 10 kilometres from the Melbourne’s city centre.

Last year, Moreland City Council launched a campaign to increase solar uptake as part of its Zero Carbon Evolution initiative. The Moreland Solar Bulk Buy program, coordinated by Positive Charge, offers heavily discounted solar power systems supplied and installed by national provider Energy Matters.

Moreland Energy Foundation (MEFL), which is supported by Moreland City Council and runs Positive Charge, reports that by the end of February:

  • 3,961 solar power systems had been installed in Moreland; a combined capacity of 10,708 kW of solar panels
  • 414 solar power systems (1,622 kW) had been installed so far during the 2014-15 financial year
  • 86 households have installed solar (244 kW) through the current Moreland Solar Bulk Buy program
  • On average, householders in Moreland have installed 3.9 kW solar power systems

In addition to slashing their carbon footprint, households participating in the Bulk Buy program have the potential to save significantly on their power bills. According to Energy Matters, a 4kW system installed in the City Of Moreland area can provide a financial benefit of between $780 and $1,233 a year depending on the installation scenario and electricity consumption profile.

For those who haven’t taken up on the solar panel system offer yet, there’s still time.

“Moreland Solar Bulk-Buy is still running. It’s the easiest way to get solar, as MEFL’s Positive Charge has done all the hard work to get a quality system for a great price from a leading solar supplier,” says MEFL.

Positive Charge can be contacted on 03 9385 8555 for further details and to determine eligibility for the initiative.

In June last year, Moreland City Council endorsed the Zero Carbon Evolution Strategy; an ambitious plan to reduce carbon emissions across the Moreland community by 22 per cent by 2020.

“Everyone in Moreland is responsible for climate change, everyone is vulnerable to the impacts and everyone must be part of the solution,” states the Strategy (PDF).
