Sustainable Residential Redevelopment For Adelaide Suburb

Adelaide redevelopment - solar

A former Housing Trust complex in the Adelaide suburb of Marden will be redeveloped with 6-star energy rated homes featuring solar power systems.

Part of the South Australian State Government’s Renewing Our Streets and Suburbs project, the redevelopment will include 61 new homes – 37 two and three-storey terraces covering much of the site. Also to be constructed is a four-storey building with 24 apartments overlooking Linear Park. Previous structures on the site were bulldozed in 2012.

Solar power systems will prove to be a great asset for development’s new residents. On average, Marden receives solar irradiation levels of around 4.47 kilowatt hours per square metre daily and there are approximately 1,249 solar panel arrays already installed in the suburb.

With the city, Linear Park and public transport close by, homes are expected to be highly sought after.

Award-winning South Australian builder Hummingbird Homes has been appointed to redevelop the 8,700m2 site.

“Place marking, the provision of high amenity public open space, environmental sustainability, affordability and diversity of housing solutions are the cornerstone of our investment ethos for the site,” said Hummingbird Homes Managing Director Daniel McOmish.

According to a statement from the South Australian Government, a pocket park will be created for community use and 20% of the homes will consist of affordable housing.

The SA Government’s Renewing Our Streets and Suburbs initiative is renewing up to 4500 ageing Housing Trust properties within 10 kilometres of the CBD by 2020. Up to 40,000 new homes will replace old South Australian Housing Trust homes in the next fifteen years.

Transport and Infrastructure Minister Stephen Mullighan says more than $1.2 billion in direct private and Government investment will go into new housing, while supporting an estimated 1600 jobs a year for the next five years.

Last year another Renewal SA project was announced involving the installation of solar panels on 200 new Housing Trust homes under construction in the suburbs and another 200 in the CBD.

Renewal SA is also involved with redevelopment of the old Tonsley Park Mitsubishi site into an industry, education, training, research, residential living and community precinct.
