Australian Enphase AC Battery Trial Announced

Enphase AC Battery
———— UPDATE – New design Enphase Battery System now available for pre-order from Energy Matters! ———— Enphase Energy has partnered with SA Power Networks to trial Enphase’s residential energy storage system in South Australia. The Enphase Storage System includes the Enphase AC Battery, a modular “plug and play” 1.2kWh battery based on Lithium Iron Phosphate (LiFePO4) chemistry and incorporating the Enphase S275 Microinverter. Another element of the system is the Enphase Envoy-S Metered gateway that enables users to securely monitor and manage their home power consumption via web-enabled devices; such as a cell phone or tablet. “As we prepare for the launch of the Enphase Home Energy Solution in Australia, these trials will help us gain insights into how energy storage can help utility providers improve their load management and develop business models for residential energy storage,” said Greg Wolfson, storage product line director at Enphase. Enphase’s Managing Director for the company’s Asia-Pacific operations, Nathan Dunn, says ensuring grid stability is one of the most significant issues to address with solar power becoming more prevalent in Australia. “The introduction of energy storage on the grid will provide greater stability, which is a win for both service providers and residential customers,” said Mr. Dunn. The company will be showcasing the Enphase Home Energy Solution at All Energy Australia 2015, which kicks off today. The Enphase AC Battery is expected to be available for purchase in Australia next year and should be well-received, with seventy-eight percent of existing owners of Enphase-based solar power systems in Australia and New Zealand indicating their strong interest in acquiring the Enphase Home Energy Solution. “The dynamics of the residential solar markets in Australia and New Zealand make it one of the most storage-ready regions in the world,” said Paul Nahi, president and CEO of Enphase. “Homeowners in Australia and New Zealand want total control of their home’s energy because of the combination of electricity rates, high solar penetration, and declining feed-in tariffs. The Enphase Home Energy Solution fits these needs with compelling economics and sets the stage for the evolving energy market.” Energy Matters’ parent company, SunEdison Australia, intends offering home battery systems from leading companies as they become available in Australia. Households and businesses interested in battery storage can sign up for pre-release announcements. In other news from Enphase Energy, the company announced today it also plans to work with Genesis Energy in New Zealand to conduct a similar residential battery storage trial across the ditch. Genesis Energy is New Zealand’s largest electricity and gas retailer.
