A revolutionary new program has been released by German company sonnen is set to disrupt the Australian energy scene.
SonnenFlat was announced last night in Sydney with Energy Matters in attendance with Christoph Ostermann and Philipp Schroeder singing the programs praises.
This comes in the wake of continued price rises of up to 20% from Australian energy retailers and the recent July 1st price hikes.
The program promises flat electricity for consumers with the only costs coming from a mobile phone type payment plan with amounts ranging from $30-$50 a month depending on the size of the system.
It is claimed by Sonnen that the program could cut a small household up to 90% of its yearly electricity bill.
A revolution through disruption
The high profile event kicked of last night with a host of industry figures in attendance to hear the exciting announcement.
Christoph Ostermann talked up the programs the programs flexibility and the impact it will have on the Australian market.
“We virtually connect our customers via the sonnen community… allowing them to connect to a network of other sonnen owners… and we can allow cheaper trading as a result.”
As part of the offer, which Sonnen expects to reach at least 2,000 adopters by the end of the year, sonnen will have access to the energy stored in the batteries to sell surpluses during peak wholesale price periods.
Australia a prime location for the program
In Germany, Sonnen has connected 6,000 customers to the SonnenFlat program and has a orders for 10,000 more. Australia is seen as one of the most attractive markets especially with 1.6 million households having solar panels installed with that number rising. Philipp Schroeder spoke of why the international powerhouse decided to invest in Australia,
“We have not seen a better value proposition for the business in any other country,’’ Mr Schroder said.
“You have the highest penetration of solar rooftop panels in the world, at the same time prices are high because Australia has sold off the entire national gas reserve to Asia and you have a lot of sun, so the market is ripe.”
