Fox ESS Power Cube All-in-One warranty
The Fox ESS Power Cube comes with a 10-year standard warranty, subject to Fox ESS’s warranty terms and conditions. Wear parts like the LCD screen and fans are excluded. As with any energy storage system, buyers should make sure warranty terms, such as throughput limits and service coverage, are clearly outlined by their installer, as support quality may vary across regions.
Pros of the Fox ESS Power Cube All-in-One
- High efficiency: With up to 97.9% inverter efficiency on three-phase models and over 97% PV-to-battery charging efficiency on single-phase models, very little solar energy is lost along the way.
- Quiet operation: The single-phase 5kW model runs at under 35dB, and the three-phase 5kW and 10kW models at under 40dB, so they’re barely noticeable in a garage or beside the house.
- Seamless backup switching: Single-phase models switch to backup power in under 4ms, fast enough that most appliances and electronics won’t notice a blackout. Three-phase models switch in under 20ms.
- Strong motor starting: Single-phase models can supply 122A for 2 seconds, helping air conditioners, pool pumps and other motor-driven appliances start reliably during an outage.
- Early start-up: A low start-up voltage (80V on single-phase, 140V on three-phase) lets the system start generating earlier in the morning and keep working in low light.
- Smart home ready: Built-in Ripple Control, DRM, SG Ready and export limit control make it easy to meet network requirements and connect compatible heat pumps.
Cons of the Fox ESS Power Cube All-in-One
- Limited unbalanced backup on three-phase: In off-grid mode, each phase on the three-phase models can supply only about a third of rated power (1.6kW, 3.3kW or 5kW depending on model), which may limit large single-phase appliances during a blackout.
- Heavy and floor-mounted only: A full 9-module system can weigh over 410kg, so it needs a solid, level floor area.
- Fan noise on larger models: The single-phase 8kW–12kW models and the three-phase 15kW model use fan cooling, running at up to 50dB and 55dB respectively.
- Fewer MPPTs on the smallest model: The single-phase 5kW model has only 2 MPPTs, which may limit output on roofs with panels facing several directions.
- Heat derating: Output reduces above 45°C, so the system is best installed in a shaded, well-ventilated spot.
- AFCI is optional: Arc-fault protection isn’t standard on every unit, so check with your installer.
- Less flexibility to mix brands: As an integrated system, the Power Cube works with its own Fox ESS battery modules, so you can’t pair it with another brand’s battery.
Applications for the Fox ESS Power Cube All-in-One
The Fox ESS Power Cube is well-suited to a range of Australian energy scenarios:
- New solar and battery installations: Ideal for homeowners installing solar and storage together who want one tidy, integrated system.
- Homes in outage-prone areas: A strong fit for households that experience regular blackouts and want their whole home to stay powered.
- Growing households: Suits families who expect their energy use to rise, such as those planning to add an EV, heat pump or more air conditioning.
- Virtual Power Plants (VPP): The Power Cube can be used to join a VPP and earn credits by supporting the grid during peak demand.
Is the Fox ESS Power Cube All-in-One right for you?
The Power Cube is not a one-size-fits-all solution, but it fits certain types of users particularly well.
It’s ideal if you:
- Are installing a new solar and battery system and want everything in one unit
- Want your whole home, not just a few circuits, backed up during outages
- Prefer a neat installation with minimal cabling
- Want to start with a smaller battery and add modules later
- Want to join a VPP or take advantage of dynamic electricity pricing
Consideration for homes with an existing inverter:
If you already have a compatible Fox ESS hybrid inverter, you may not need an all-in-one system. A standalone battery like the Fox ESS EP11 or CQ7 could be a more cost-effective way to add storage.
