JA Solar, one of the world’s largest producers of solar cells and panels, last week announced impressive results for the first quarter of this year.

The company states total shipments reached 1,128.3 megawatts, consisting of 1,038.3 MW of solar panels and cells to external customers and 90.0 MW of modules for the company’s own downstream projects. The result exceeded previous guidance from JA Solar, which estimated a range between 1,000 to 1,100 MW.

Q1 saw external shipments up 52.4% year over year and down -22.4% compared to Q4 in 2015 – the latter due to normal seasonal decline.

“Our success in key markets is due to our high standards for product quality and our leading technology,” said Mr. Baofang Jin , Chairman and CEO of JA Solar. .

Mr. Jin said he expects JA Solar to connect around 250 MW of projects before June 30 .

“Although regulatory change will slow the China market in the second half, our balanced market footprint gives us plenty of sales opportunities around the world.”

The company expects total cell and module shipments during the second quarter to be in the range of 1,400 to 1,500 MW, including approximately 100 MW of panel shipments for its own projects.  For the full year, the Company sees 5.2 to 5.5 GW being shipped, including 250 to 300 MW for JA Solar’s downstream projects.

Earlier this month, JA Solar announced it had added 1.5GW of solar manufacturing capacity with a new production facility in Xingtai, Hebei province, China.

JA Solar panels are becoming an increasingly common sight on the rooftops of homes throughout Australia; selected for their solid performance and friendly pricing point. The company says the power rating of its modules in mass production are on average about 5 to 10 watts above industry average. It also claims its R&D team and facilities have been on average 6-12 months ahead of competition in cell research and development since 2008.

JA Solar states it is the only company that uses 100% double-printing technology in solar cell production; which provides optimized contact resistance and solderability of solar cell conductor tracks.
