About the episode

You might have heard talk about Net Zero. But what does it mean? And how can we all work towards it? In this episode, we talked to Momentum Energy’s Lisa Chiba. From getting off gas to switching to an EV, she shares some concrete steps we can take and how Momentum can help customers on their net zero journey.

Episode 2 of Energy Matters took us to Melbourne where James visited the headquarters of Momentum Energy. It is here that he caught up with Lisa Chiba, Momentum Energy’s Managing Director. Lisa shared her own personal journey of moving her home and family closer to net zero. While she hasn’t yet achieved net zero, her home is on its way thanks to Goodbye Gas.

Electrifying Lisa’s home was made easier with Goodbye Gas, a service that connects you with electrification experts to walk you through the process. Moving away from gas has never been easier. While Lisa doesn’t have an electric vehicle yet, she has asked to have her carport wired up to make adding an EV charger easier when she upgrades her car in the future. When the time comes, Lisa can utilise EV Does It*; Momentum’s electricity plan for EV owners that offers lower off-peak rates (if you’re on a time-of-use tariff).

Goodbye Gas and how to electrify your home

From an environmental and health perspective, electricity wins hands down^ . Burning gas releases carbon emissions and indoor air pollutants linked to respiratory issues. In contrast, a fully electric home can better take advantage of renewable energy as more and more of it is added to Australia’s electricity grid.

By ditching gas, households can future-proof themselves against potential bans on new gas connections and help accelerate Australia’s transition to renewable energy.

Goodbye Gas, in partnership with Momentum Energy, can help you make the switch easier. They’ll offer you advice on appliances, guide you through the various state and federal incentives, and help you organise installation. If you’re a Momentum gas customer in Victoria, purchase any product from Goodbye Gas via Momentum, and choose to completely disconnect from gas, Momentum will cover the abolishment fee! This will be a credit of up to $251.90 (incl. GST) on your final bill once the gas meter has been removed.
