SCE Signs On For 1.3GW Of New Solar Power

Southern California Edison (SCE) has announced contracts representing more than 1,300 megawatts of new solar power.

Southern California Edison (SCE) has announced contracts representing more than 1,300 megawatts of new solar power; plus the re-contracting of 225 megawatts with an existing geothermal energy project.

The deals keeps SCE firmly on track to meet California’s goal of sourcing 33% of electricity generation from renewables. The company is already ahead of the pack – last year it delivered 22% renewables sourced electricity to its customers; compared to the overall California power mix of approximately 15 percent renewables.

Last year, SCE delivered 1 billion kilowatt-hours of solar electricity ; avoiding carbon emissions of 444,000 tonnes and providing enough power to serve the needs of 158,000 California homes.

“SCE is committed to continuing to bring renewable power resources to our customers and helping achieve California’s environmental goals,” said Stuart R. Hemphill, SCE senior vice president, Power Supply and Operational Services.
