95% Renewable Energy By 2050 Possible : Greenpeace

Greenpeace's 'Energy [R]evolution: A Sustainable World Energy Outlook' provides an updated, detailed blueprint for slashing carbon emissions while stimulating economic growth by replacing fossil fuels with renewable energy and energy efficiency.

Greenpeace International’s latest Energy [R]evolution report was published today. “Energy [R]evolution: A Sustainable World Energy Outlook”, provides an updated, detailed blueprint for slashing carbon emissions while stimulating economic growth by replacing fossil fuels with renewable energy solutions and energy efficiency strategies.

Greenpeace says its Energy [R]evolution Scenario only uses proven technologies and is based on five key principles; being

1. Equity and fairness
2. Respect natural limits
3. Phase out dirty, unsustainable energy
4. Implement renewable solutions and decentralise energy systems
5. Decouple growth from fossil fuel use

Greenpeace’s blueprint isn’t just about renewable energy, but what it says will be a green jobs revolution. By 2030 the Energy [R]evolution scenario would create approximately 12 million jobs, with 8.5 million in the renewable energy sector alone. This would translate to 33% more jobs by 2030 in the global power supply sector than would be achieved under a “business as usual” scenario.

The blueprint also emphasises the importance of decentralised power generation; including grid connected solar power systems installed on the rooftops of homes and businesses. Greenpeace believes Australia could realistically take coal fired power stations out of its energy mix at the rate of more than one a year; seeing the end of coal fired power generation in the country by 2030.

“Energy [R]evolution: A Sustainable World Energy Outlook” was developed in consultation with specialists from the Institute of Technical Thermodynamics at the German Aerospace Centre (DLR), the Dutch Institute Ecofys and more than 40 scientists and engineers from universities, institutes and the renewable energy industry around the world.
