In this episode of Energy Matters, Roshan and the crew travelled to Zhuhai, China, for an exclusive tour of AIKO’s state-of-the-art manufacturing facility. AIKO is a global leader in solar technology, best known for its high-efficiency All Back Contact (ABC) N-type panels.
Before stepping onto the factory floor, Roshan met with Ellen from AIKO to discuss the essential raw materials that go into producing high-performance solar panels. AIKO’s process begins with refining silicon into high-purity ingots, which are then sliced into ultra-thin wafers. These wafers form the foundation of the advanced solar cells that make up the company’s industry-leading modules.
Inside the manufacturing facility, automation takes centre stage. Robots handle the bulk of production, ensuring precision and efficiency at every stage. AIKO’s rigorous quality control processes continuously monitor each step, from wafer production to final assembly. Before leaving the factory floor, every module undergoes comprehensive safety and durability testing to meet the highest industry standards.
As the tour concluded, Roshan and Ellen explored AIKO’s latest innovations, including the company’s Building-Integrated Photovoltaics (BIPV) modules. Currently in the research and development phase, these next-generation panels are designed to seamlessly integrate into building structures, pushing the boundaries of solar technology even further.
This episode provides a rare behind-the-scenes look at one of the world’s most advanced solar manufacturing facilities, highlighting AIKO’s commitment to innovation, quality, and the future of clean energy.
AIKO, established in 2009, has rapidly become a global leader in solar technology, focusing on cutting-edge research, manufacturing solar generation products, and integrating PV storage and charging solutions. Internationally, the company has pioneered advancements such as tubular double-sided PERC technology and 210mm solar cells, which have set new industry standards. AIKO’s ABC solar panels are among the most efficient in the world, boasting a conversion efficiency of 25.15%, a record-breaking achievement. With a strong presence in global markets, AIKO has now expanded into Australia, entering the market in March 2024. The company has partnered with major Australian solar distributors, including Solar Juice, AC Solar Warehouse, Sol Distribution, and Tradezone, securing 2GW of its second-generation N-type ABC modules for the Australian market. In addition, AIKO collaborates with the Australian Centre for Advanced Photovoltaics on a US$4 million research initiative aimed at pushing solar cell efficiency beyond 30% using interdigitated back contact (IBC) solar cells.
AIKO’s GEN 2 N-type ABC panels are designed to deliver higher efficiency, superior durability, and excellent performance in low-light conditions, making them ideal for Australian homes and businesses. These panels eliminate metal grid lines on the front, increasing sunlight absorption and overall energy yield. For residential properties, AIKO’s high-efficiency panels help homeowners maximise their roof space, reducing energy costs while ensuring long-term reliability. Their high-temperature performance and resistance to degradation make them particularly well-suited for Australia’s harsh climate. For businesses, AIKO’s advanced modules provide a high return on investment by increasing solar power generation per square metre, reducing reliance on the grid, and meeting sustainability targets. The company’s expansion into the commercial and industrial sectors, along with its push into BIPV, highlights its commitment to developing solar solutions that seamlessly integrate with modern architecture. AIKO’s entry into Australia reinforces its dedication to driving innovation in the solar industry while supporting the nation’s transition to clean, renewable energy.
AIKO’s ABC INFINITE Series modules are designed to deliver exceptional efficiency and aesthetics for the Australian market. By maximising the light-receiving area, these modules achieve up to 40W more power than traditional TOPCon modules, offering a significant boost in energy production. This series integrates AIKO’s advanced All Back Contact (ABC) technology, eliminating inter-cell gaps and concealing busbars, which enhances both performance and visual appeal. These features make the ABC INFINITE Series an excellent choice for Australian homeowners and businesses seeking high-efficiency solar solutions.
The Neostar 2P Mono-Glass Series is tailored for residential applications in Australia, offering a power output of up to 485W and a module efficiency of 24.3%. These modules feature N-Type ABC cell technology and come with a 15-year product warranty (extendable to 25 years) and a 30-year performance warranty, ensuring long-term reliability. With dimensions of 1757x1134x30mm and a weight of 21.5kg, they are designed for easy installation on Australian rooftops. The Neostar 2P54 Series also boasts a low performance degradation rate of ≤1% in the first year and ≤0.35% annually thereafter, along with a temperature coefficient of -0.26%/°C, ensuring consistent performance even in Australia’s diverse climate conditions.
AIKO’s Comet Series modules are engineered for commercial and industrial applications, providing high power output and efficiency. For instance, the Comet 2U72 Mono-Glass module offers a power output ranging from 645W to 670W, making it suitable for large-scale installations. These modules incorporate features like partial shading optimisation, better temperature coefficients, and micro-crack resistance, ensuring durability and high performance in various Australian environmental conditions.
Upgrade to cutting-edge solar technology with AIKO’s high-efficiency panels. Whether you’re a homeowner or business, AIKO’s record-breaking efficiency and durability can help you maximise energy savings and reduce reliance on the grid.
