Electric and hybrid vehicles are an essential component in the Global Energy revolution. Roshan travelled to China to visit Geely, a world-renowned EV manufacturer.
Rosh is presented with a breathtaking tour of a mammoth assembly line that marries state-of-the-art technology with incredible attention to detail.
With two exceptional vehicles, the electric EX5 and the plug-in hybrid Starray EM-i, viewers are treated to a behind-the-scenes look at how an EV is manufactured from start to finish.
The Geely EX5 is a mid-size all-electric SUV designed to make the shift to EV driving feel effortless and practical for Australian households. Built on a dedicated electric platform, it delivers smooth and quiet performance through a 160 kW motor, paired with a lithium iron phosphate battery that offers up to around 475 km of driving range. This makes it well suited to both daily commuting and longer trips, without relying on petrol. The EX5 also focuses heavily on usability, with fast charging capability, modern in-car technology, and a spacious interior that caters to families and everyday drivers alike. It positions itself as an accessible, no-fuss entry point into full electrification, combining efficiency with comfort and real-world practicality.
The Geely Starray EM-i takes a hybrid approach, offering flexibility for drivers not quite ready to go fully electric. As a plug-in hybrid SUV, it combines a 1.5-litre petrol engine with an electric drive system, allowing for up to around 80 km of pure electric driving for everyday use. Beyond that, the petrol engine steps in to extend total driving range to well over 900 km, effectively eliminating range anxiety. This setup is ideal for households that want to reduce fuel costs and emissions without changing driving habits entirely. With intelligent energy management, smooth transitions between power sources, and strong overall efficiency, the Starray EM-i provides a practical stepping stone toward full electrification.
