Renewable energy is another important area that will be showcased at the forum.

Rob Wells, Tasmanian State Manager of Apollo Energy, will  be speaking at the event and presenting a case study relating to a wind turbine installation at Australia’s Mawson Station, Antarctica.

Two 300kW wind turbines now supply up to 80% of the energy at Mawson Station, with diesel generators providing a backup supply. The session will give an overview of the technology employed at Mawson and will discuss the challenges faced in operating, maintaining and improving the station’s power supply.

Another case study to be discussed during the forum will be Clarke Island, Tasmania, where prior to the installation of a hybrid (2kW solar and 1kW wind) stand alone power system, the annual running cost of a diesel generator was $35k and transporting the fuel to the island was expensive, labour intensive, and inefficient.

The forum promises a diverse, practical program, packed with useful information and expert speakers; offering electrical engineers and other interested parties the ability to keep on top of the latest trends.

The Regional Electrical Engineering Forum 2009 will be held at The Old Woolstore Apartment Hotel in Hobart, Tasmania  on 1st and 2nd of July 2009. For further information about attending the event, please contact Sarah Montgomery on 1300 138 522 or via sarah.montgomery@idc-online.com
