Solar panel maker REC has begun commercial production of the latest incarnation of its award-winning TwinPeak 2 Series brand, a 72-cell next-gen solar panel that sets a world record for power production.

Rated up to 350Wp (watt peak capacity [1,000 Wp = 1 kWp]), the new REC TwinPeak 2S 72 Series uses multi-crystalline technology to pack more power than other mono-crystalline panels of similar size.

In January, REC unveiled the TwinPeak 2 Series module, a 60-cell panel rated up to 295 Wp. This was soon followed by the REC TwinPeak 2 BLK2 – a truly full-black multicrystalline panel designed for residential installations.

Evolved technologies boost solar production

Weighing just 22kg – 4kg less than standard 72-cell panels – the next-generation TwinPeak 2S 72 Series features several evolving REC TwinPeak technologies including large cell wafers to boost energy production, half-cut cell design to reduce resistive power loss, PERC (Passivated Emitter Rear Cell) technology.

In addition, the 72 Series incorporates the TwinPeak split junction box spread across the middle of the module, which allows the panel to operate at peak efficiency in partially shaded conditions. The TwinPeak Series panel boasts a 17.7 percent efficiency rating thanks to innovative PERC (Passivated Emitter Rear Cell) technology for increased light capture and conversion.

New next-gen solar panel ideal for Aussie climate

Like all REC products, the new next-gen solar panel is 100 percent free from potential-induced degeneration (PID), avoiding performance losses under high temperatures and humidity – making it an ideal solar solution for Australian conditions.

“With our new 72-cell panel, we have once again demonstrated our global leadership in multicrystalline technology,” said Cemil Seber, Vice President Global Marketing and Product Management at REC.

“The REC TwinPeak 2S 72 addresses the needs of our customers in the C&I and utility-scale segments who demand large panels, with lighter weight, and high power combined with REC’s renowned product quality.”

REC solar panels have been a popular choice for residential and commercial solar power systems in Australia since Energy Matters introduced the modules to the local market in 2010. A Tier 1 producer, REC’s modules offer more power per square metre than other polycrystalline panels due to their unique design.

Founded in Norway more than twenty years ago, REC has evolved into the largest European brand of solar panels.
