The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has updated its Top 50 Green Power Partnership rankings, with Microsoft entering the top 5 and McDonald’s USA also making its debut appearance on the Top 50 list.
During the previous reporting update, Intel was sourcing 88% of its electricity from green sources including power purchase agreements with wind and solar farms, plus through its own on-site generation; a percentage that remains unchanged.
Kohl’s Department Stores remains at no.2, but Walmart has lost its no 3. rank to Microsoft. The software company sourced 1,120,000,000 kilowatt-hours of green electricity from from biomass, small-hydro and wind power during the most recent reporting period.
McDonald’s USA LLC, ranked at no.11, sourced 306,000,000 kilowatt-hours from wind power during the reporting period.
Of the top 10, three participating partners are now sourcing 100% of their electricity from green power – Kohl’s Department Stores, Whole Foods Market and City of Austin, TX.
Collectively, the Top 50 partners are consuming more than 15 billion kilowatt-hours (kWh) of green electricity each year and avoiding carbon emissions equivalent to the amount produced by more than 1.3 million American households.
