Enphase batteries added to South Australia’s Home Battery Scheme

South Australian virtual power plant soon to enter phase 3.

The South Australian government has added Enphase batteries to its Home Battery Scheme’s list of eligible batteries. Previously, the scheme had only included battery systems manufactured or assembled in South Australia.

Enphase AC battery systems are modular in style. This means you can use them to build an energy storage system that matches your power needs and your budget. The batteries are small and lightweight at approximately 25 kg, with a usable storage capacity of 1.2 kWh each.

Enphase energy storage systems also provide a good entry-level option. By stacking battery modules, you can build a storage system of whatever size you wish.

How the South Australian scheme works

South Australian subsidies for solar storage systems are based on kWh capacity. The value offered is $500 per kWh for households, or $600/kWh for energy concession holders. The subsidy amounts are capped at $6,000 per battery system installed.

So for a 5 kWh battery installation a household could receive a subsidy of $2,500 to $3,000. For 10 kWh, the subsidy could be as high as the maximum $6,000.

The addition of Enphase batteries to the scheme means households in SA looking for a smaller, lower-cost option may be able to take advantage of the government subsidies.

However, it’s important to note that the scheme sets minimum requirements for batteries to be eligible. These include reliability, safety and being VPP (virtual power plant) capable.

The benefits of solar Enphase batteries

A home battery system such as Enphase batteries allows you to store excess power generated from your solar panel installation for later use. This means, for example, that if you are out during the day, you could store unused power in your battery and then draw on it in the evening.

By doing this you save money on your energy costs and bills. It also helps to reduce demand on the electricity grid.

Schemes in Victoria and Queensland also added home batteries to their subsidy schemes last year.

Victorians can access battery funding under the Victorian Solar Homes program. Queenslanders can access interest-free loans of up to $10,000 and grants of $3000 to purchase batteries or combined solar-battery systems.
