Goodyear Dunlop Rooftop Solar Farm Completed

German renewable energy company juwi Solar has announced completion of a massive 7.4MW rooftop PV solar farm at Goodyear Dunlop's logistics center in Germany.

German renewable energy company juwi Solar has announced completion of a massive 7.4MW rooftop solar farm at Goodyear Dunlop’s logistics center in Germany.

The PV based solar farm will generated approximately 7.3 million kWh per year, the equivalent of the electricity needs of approximately 1,800 households.

The power plant in Philippsburg, built in partnership with PV julist GmbH, is the largest rooftop solar power plant in Germany and one of the largest installations of its kind in the world.

Covering 87,000 square, the 95,500 thin film solar modules will avoid. 5,000 tons of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions annually.

Juwi says the project shows the huge potential that roof surfaces of industry and trade buildings have for renewable energy and playing  a role in the battle against climate change.

Lars Falck, managing director juwi Solar, says companies that utilise the rooftops of their buildings can bolster their image in the community and create additional income.

Businesses in many countries around the world, including Australia, can generate revenue by installing solar power systems through feed in tariff programs that pay a premium rate for electricity generated and exported to the mains grid. Additional income can also come in the form of savings on electricity bills.

The European logistics center of Goodyear Dunlop Phillipsburg controls the flow of goods in over 120 countries. The company employs approximately 7,300 employees in Germany at seven locations and operates six manufacturing facilities, including a center for research and development.

The juwi group has over 1,000 employees and to date has installed around 450 wind turbines, producing a total output of over 700 megawatts. The company has constructed 1,500 solar PV systems with a total capacity of over 700 megawatts.
