Energy Matters Donates Solar To Enviroweek School Winners

Two Australian schools will soon benefit from solar power systems donated by Energy Matters.

The systems are a part of the prize pool offered during Enviroweek 2013, held between 25 – 31 August. This year’s event was a huge success; with over 160,000 young Australians participating.

Enviroweek is week of action when “Australian students take on a green challenge to create good habits for long-term change.”

Students had eight ‘challenges’ to choose from; which included tasks such as planting veggie gardens and saving energy or water.

An element of EnviroWeek was fundraising for CoolAustralia; a not-for-profit organisation educating young Australians for a sustainable future.

The two schools to each win a 3kW solar power system from Energy Matters were Westfield Sports High School in New South Wales and The Gordon, VIC.

Westfield Sports High School chose to focus on eco-fundraising while The Gordon students rose to the ‘sparky challenge’; conducting a number of experiments including the use of solar panels. Their various efforts can be viewed here.

Energy Matters CEO Jeremy Rich applauds all who participated.

“The 160,000 students who joined in sends a clear signal to us all – the next generation care what happens to the planet.”

“We’ve installed solar panel systems at a number of educational institutions around the nation and we’re very proud to be able to help even more schools benefit from solar through our association with EnviroWeek,” he said.

“For the recipient schools, the systems will not only add a very visible indicator of their environmental stewardship and also offer learning opportunities for students, the electricity created will help reduce the school’s electricity bills significantly”.
