Tasmania’s Agfest Goes Solar

Tasmania's Agfest 2008 was a great success with over 64,000 people attending over 3 days. This year the event is expected to attract even more interest thanks to attractions such as helicopter rides and new technologies being showcased, including solar power.

Think of agricultural festivals and you’d usually envision sheep dips, tractors, working sheep dog trials and chainsaw carving; but this year’s Tasmania Agfest will be all that and more.

Agfest 2008 was a great success with over 64,000 people attending over 3 days. This year the event is expected to attract even more interest thanks to attractions such as helicopter rides and new technologies being showcased, including solar power.

There’s been an increasing awareness and uptake of stand alone solar power systems by farmers and rural people in Tasmania as cost effective alternatives to diesel for powering their properties.

Apollo Energy, a subsidiary of national solar energy company Energy Matters, will be attending this years Agfest to demonstrate technologies including solar hot water, solar water pumping and solar panels. The Apollo Energy team will answer questions from people regarding the application of solar power for their particular situation.

Apollo Energy will also have all the latest information and forms relating to financial incentives for solar power, such as the $8,000 grid connect rebate and the RRPGP initiative that provides up to a 50% rebate on off grid solar energy and wind power systems. Interested attendees will be able to arrange for a site inspection for an obligation-free quote.

People visiting the Apollo Energy stand will also be able to take advantage of a very special Agfest-only promotion to help make it even more affordable to make the switch to solar power.

Dates for Agfest 2009 are the 7th, 8th and 9th of May, and it will be held at Quercus Rural Youth Park, on Oaks Road between Carrick and Bracknell, south-west of Launceston (between Launceston and Devonport),  in Tasmania. The opening times for Agfest patrons are 8:00am to 5:00pm each day, with car parks open from 6:30am.

Information about the festival, including maps and driving directions, can be viewed here. The Apollo Energy stand will be at site 1133 on 11th Avenue – for further information, contact Apollo Energy on 1300 855 484 or 03 6331 6119.
