Yingli Solar Donation Powers Laos School

Yingli Solar’s Singapore subsidiary has donated an off-grid solar power system to a school in Laos that previously had no access to electricity.

The 3kW off grid system provides power for lighting, fans, projectors, audio-visual systems and other related equipment for the school in  Ban Lad Khammune, which serves more than 100 primary and secondary students from seven nearby villages.

The project was carried out in conjunction with Earthlinks, an environmental club from Nanyang Technological University (“Earthlinks NTU”), and several other organisations.

“This project powerfully exemplifies how renewable, sustainable energy can improve the lives of rural communities, and is reflective of Yingli’s larger efforts to improve the lives of people around the world with affordable green energy,” said Angie Koh, Business Development Director of Yingli Singapore

“By partnering with NGOs and environmental organizations, Yingli can make a more significant impact with its community work in South East Asia.”

In addition to providing clean power, the installation also served as a training exercise for Earthlinks NTU student volunteers; who planned the wiring of the school with the assistance of Yingli and  Rezeca Renewables.

In other Yingli Solar news, the company announced earlier this week that its Spanish subsidiary has signed a 31.6 MW supply agreement with Gestamp Solar for the provision of Yingli Solar panels for a power generation facility in Daigo, Japan.

More than 125,000 solar panels will be supplied for the project; which will generate approximately 32.730 gigawatt hours of clean electricity a year.

Yingli Solar is the world’s largest manufacturer of solar modules. The company recently announced it had shipped more than 10 gigawatts of PV capacity – which equates to 40 million+ solar panels; enough to power millions of homes.

The company plans to release its unaudited financial results for the second quarter of 2014 before the U.S. market opens on Wednesday, August 27, 2014.
