Not All Solar Installers Are Equal: Choosing the Right One for Your Home, REC Solar

Open Homes Australia REC Alpha Pure-R solar panels

A rooftop solar system on your home is the best way to protect your household budget from escalating power prices. But investing in a rooftop solar system is a significant upfront investment and you would want to choose reliable solar panels that are installed by a quality solar professional who takes pride in their workmanship.

By choosing a REC Certified Solar Professional (RCSP) installer for your home solar installation you’re guaranteed to get quality solar panels and a quality installation backed by the industry’s leading warranty. We’ll explain the top three reasons why choosing an installer that has completed the RCSP Program is the best guarantee that your investment in solar panels will perform effectively for at least 25 years.

Considering solar quotes from Energy Matters can be a prudent step in exploring options that align with your preferences and budget, ensuring a seamless integration of sustainable energy into your home without compromising on quality.

1. Best installers

Gus Paviani, Country Manager of REC Solar ANZ said, “At REC Solar, we carefully pre-vet solar installers before inviting them to join the REC Certified Solar Professional Program. We only want the best installers to be certified and this is part of our commitment to customers who choose to invest in a quality rooftop solar system.”

There are currently 300 installers who have been certified in Australia and New Zealand. Once they have been shortlisted, we equip them with product information on REC solar panels and provide them with the know-how to design and install quality solar installations using REC TwinPeak 4 Series or Alpha Pure R Series solar panels. By making it an invitation-only program, we guarantee that you’re getting the best of the best installers in the industry.

2. Quality panels. Quality installation.

REC solar panels are European designed and manufactured in Singapore to the highest environmental and ethical standards. The Alpha Pure R solar panels are lead-free and RoHS compliant, where the use of hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment is restricted to protect the environment and public health. By eliminating the use of lead from our Alpha Pure R solar panel components, we are the first manufacturer on the market to certifiably meet the ROHS requirements to be lead-free. REC solar panels have also received industry awards for their high power output per square metre, reliability, and performance.

Knowing you’re getting quality solar panels is a great start.  But to get the best out of your rooftop solar system on your home, you need to be sure the solar panels are installed properly, using the right racking system, attached to a monitoring solution to check on the performance of your rooftop solar system and documented for warranty claims.

Even with quality solar panels, a solar installer that isn’t committed to providing a quality installation could take shortcuts that can compromise the safety, aesthetics, power output of a system, and possibly void your product warranty.

There are thousands of solar installers in the market and identifying a trustworthy installer can be tricky. With the RCSP Program, you can rest easy knowing we’ve chosen and trained the best installers to ensure your REC solar panel installation is in good hands.

3. The industry’s leading warranty

The best warranties are the ones you never have to claim on and that’s what you get with REC. In the last 12 months, only 400 of our total four million solar panels manufactured have been returned. It’s an extraordinarily low claims rate and one that many other solar panel manufacturers can only aspire to.

In the unlikely event you need to claim on a warranty relating to your REC solar panels, we’ve got you covered. With a REC solar panel installation carried out by an RCSP installer, you get the highest level of warranties possible for your solar panels.  The REC ProTrust Warranty cover far exceeds the industry’s standards.  It’s even higher than the standard warranty that comes with REC solar panels installed by installers who are not RCSP certified.

The REC ProTrust Warranty* comprises of three components:

Product warranty: 25 years

Covers panel defects and promises superior quality for at least 25 years.

Performance warranty: 25 years

Ensures that REC panels perform exactly as expected to, every year for 25 years.

Labour warranty: 25 years

Unique to the REC ProTrust Warranty, this gives added protection in the unlikely event that a REC panel needs to be serviced.

With the REC ProTrust Warranty – available exclusively from RCSP installers – you get an outstanding 25-year warranty on the product, performance, and labour on your REC solar installation.

Most solar panels only come with a 10-year or 15-year product warranty and no warranty on the installation labour for the solar panels (or five years only if you’re lucky). If you read the fine print of the performance warranty, you’ll find that REC solar panels offer a much better guaranteed performance – with a lower degradation rate – than most other solar panels.

  REC ProTrust Warranty* Industry standard
Product warranty 25 years 10 to 15 years
Performance warranty 25 years 25 years
Labour warranty 25 years 0 years
*To qualify for the REC ProTrust Warranty, installations must be registered by your REC Certified Professional Installer via the REC SunSnap app or REC Certified Solar Professional Portal.

If you purchase REC solar panels and have them installed by a solar installer that is not RCSP certified, you will get the same performance warranty. However, the product warranty would be for 20 years, and it would not cover labour.

With REC, you can be assured that if your solar installer is no longer in business, and should you need to make a warranty claim, you’re fully covered by REC.

*REC ProTrust warranty applies to rooftop installations up to 500 kW and is subject to warranty conditions. Warranty terms outlined in this blog applies to solar panel installations less than 25kW in solar panel capacity.
