South Australia calls for next-generation renewable technology

$10,000 no-interest loans for solar under SA Labor govt

The South Australian Government is calling for next-generation projects based on renewable technology.

The Government is looking for ground-breaking projects to deliver clean, reliable and affordable power.

As part of the $150 million Renewable Technology Fund announced in March 2017, the Government has issued new Investment Guidelines. The Government specifies three main areas for project submissions:

  • Firming renewable generation This involves incorporating storage or other efficiency-based equipment into existing or pending wind or solar developments. The aim is to increase stability in the power supply.
  • Bulk energy storage This includes areas such as pumped hydro, compressed air, solar thermal storage and virtual power plants.
  • Bio energy This is energy produced by recycling agricultural wastes or by-products.

Foundation for innovation and renewable technology

Soon to host the world’s largest lithium ion battery, South Australia is looking for the next generation of renewable and demand management technologies, Mr Weatherill says.

In addition, he said the South Australian government wants to support innovative companies and entrepreneurs to nurture cutting-edge technology.

“I can’t wait to see some of the exciting projects which are accelerated as a result of investments from our Renewable Technology Fund.”

A fund to boost South Australian renewable energy

The $150 Million Renewable Technology Fund is part of the ‘South Australian Power for South Australians’ energy plan.

The fund is split between grant funding and loans or other forms of investment for eligible projects submitted by businesses.

So far, funding grants have gone towards the grid-scale battery storage project being constructed by Tesla near Jamestown.

Furthermore, State Treasurer Tom Koutsantonis says South Australian clean energy is advancing exponentially.

“We have an opportunity to create investment and jobs in this space in South Australia for generations to come,” he says.

“Our aim is to deliver clean, reliable and affordable power for all South Australians.”

Applications remain open until 5pm on Thursday 28 September 2017. Successful applicants will be notified before summer.
