Melbourne this week played host to a cast of world leaders of the renewable energy industry, including representatives from the USA and China.

Local solar energy solutions company Energy Matters, this year’s recipient of the prestigious Melbourne Award for Contribution to the Environment, was represented by CEO Jeremy Rich, who praised the event.

“It was great to see so many people take an interest in renewable energy. There were at least twice as many exhibitors compared to last year.”

“Exhibitor’s like Ernst & Young, Bosch, Mitsubishi and Nissan demonstrate that solar power, and renewable energy in general, is truly becoming mainstream and is attracting the attention of some of the world’s leading manufacturers and consulting firms.”

Victorian Energy and Resources Minister Peter Batchelor launched the two-day clean energy conference on Wednesday.

“The All-Energy 2010 Australia Exhibition and Conference is dedicated to renewable, clean and sustainable sources of energy including no-carbon and low-carbon technologies, such as solar, wind, wave, bio-fuels and geothermal power, clean coal and carbon sequestration,” he said.

It is the second time Melbourne has hosted the round table-style forum, aimed at bringing together investors in renewable energy technologies. The conference is the sister show to the successful UK round-table renewable energy event which has been running for the past ten years.

Mr Batchelor said Victoria was leading the way in Australia on clean energy and this was demonstrated by the high number of applicants for the latest round of Brumby Labor Government funding for sustainable energy projects.

“There is $30 million available in the current round of funding for research or pilot demonstration sustainable projects and almost 90 applications were received, which shows the strength of the skills and work already underway in Victoria,” he said.
