AuSES Renames To Australian Solar Council

The Australian Solar Energy Society has been renamed to the Australian Solar Council as it gears up to become the national voice of solar energy.

The Australian Solar Energy Society has been renamed to the Australian Solar Council as it gears up to become the national voice of solar energy.

The organisation formerly known as AuSES has been a little quiet in recent times, but obviously there has been a lot going on behind the scenes.

According to the newly minted Australian Solar Council, the name change “reflects the transformational impact that solar energy is having on energy production in Australia, now and into the future.”

John Grimes, CEO of the Australian Solar Council, says an important role for the organisation would be to better inform Australian policy-makers about solar power and its potential.

“Our job will be to dispel the myths and misinformation that is put to policy-makers and the public about the practicalities and potential of solar as the driver of Australia’s clean energy future.”

Making the announcement, Mr Grimes pointed out increasing numbers of Australians were making the switch to solar power as the price of solar panels have plummeted by more than 70% and electricity prices are up by around 50% in the past four years, with further rises inevitable.

In its former incarnation, the Australian Solar Council played a major role in rebuking the New South Wales government for its treatment of solar households in relation to the state’s feed in tariff scheme. The organisation has also been very vocal in its push for system owners throughout the nation to be paid fair value for the solar electricity they export to the mains grid.

The organisation has been operating under various names for many years. Initially known as the Australian New Zealand Solar Energy Society (ANZSES) before the name change to AuSES, the Australian Solar Council has been operating since 1954. It is a non-profit organisation promoting scientific, social and economic development through the environmentally sound use of solar energy.
