Battery System Rebates SA

Battery System Rebates SA

Using battery systems to store energy produced by solar panels and other renewable sources is becoming increasingly common. In South Australia, many rebates are available to help offset the cost of installing a battery system in your home or business.

Solar battery rebates in South Australia (SA)

40,000 South Australian families were to receive assistance from the SA Home Battery Scheme in installing home batteries. For the installation of household batteries, it provided South Australians with a solar battery rebate of up to $6,000 and low-interest financing. The solar battery rebate in South Australia was DISCONTINUED, according to the state government budget issued in June 2022.

Despite the SA Home Battery Scheme closure, another option for residents in South Australia is the “Battery Storage for Business” rebate, which offers eligible businesses a $1,500 rebate towards the cost of a battery system. To qualify, the business must be connected to the grid, and a participating retailer must install the battery system.

And South Australia’s Virtual Power Plant (SA VPP) is a network of distributed energy resources – such as homes with solar and battery systems – all working together as a single power plant.

Tesla: An innovative home battery designed specifically for Australia will help you get the most out of your solar panels by storing energy at night or during power outages.

SA Virtual Power Plant (VPP)

With the help of the South Australian government, Energy Locals and Tesla are building South Australia’s Virtual Power Plant (SA VPP), which will eventually connect 50,000 solar and Tesla Powerwall home battery systems across the state to create the biggest virtual power plant in the country.

In October 2019, Tesla launched its Tesla Energy Plan, an electricity retail offer for private households that wish to purchase and enrol their Tesla Powerwall battery in SA VPP.

Is the SA VPP different from the Tesla Energy Plan?

Customers who have acquired their own Tesla Powerwall and solar installation can use the Tesla Energy Plan. Customers who enrol in this program agree to let Tesla operate their Powerwall to maximise its value while maintaining complete ownership of their systems.

Customers gain access to exclusive discounts on battery prices, a Feed-in Tariff (FiT) for the solar energy they export to the grid, no daily supply fees, energy security in the event of a power outage, and a market-leading electricity consumption rate for any energy imported from the grid in exchange.

Why is my internet connection required by Tesla?

Signals are transmitted to the batteries remotely via software since the solar and Tesla Powerwall home batteries in SA VPP must cooperate. The fastest and most reliable way to do this is using a home internet connection (wifi or Ethernet), as they often have stronger signals than cellular (or “mobile internet”) connections.

According to Tesla, each system should utilise no more than 5 MB of data each month and will not pay for this internet usage.

Your consent to join SA VPP gives Tesla access to your home internet connection to improve the SA VPP experience for you and everyone else participating in the program. During the installation procedure, more details will be given.

Involved in the virtual power plant in South Australia

Tesla has designed and developed SA VPP and is managing the installation of solar and Tesla Powerwall home battery systems in South Australian homes.

For every household taking part in SA VPP, Energy Locals provides and sells electricity.

The project is funded by grants of $2 million from the Renewable Technology Fund, $20 million in loans from the Grid Scale Storage Fund, and $10 million from the Government of South Australia. The government is collaborating with Tesla to find Housing SA assets appropriate for the Phase 3 deployment.

Private homes wanting to take part in SA VPP

Enrolling in the Tesla Energy Plan allows private households to join SA VPP. This is a retail deal from Tesla for private homes that want to buy a Tesla Powerwall battery and sign up for the SA VPP.

Adelaide’s sustainability incentives scheme

For the installation of sustainable technologies in their home or building, residents, businesses, and organisations are eligible for rebates under the Sustainability Incentives Scheme.

Other incentives

The rebates are designed to make it more affordable for homeowners and businesses to install these systems and to encourage more people to invest in renewable energy. The rebates can combine with other incentives, such as the federal government’s Small-scale Technology Certificates (STCs) and the electric vehicle incentive.

Benefits

The South Australian Government is encouraging the adoption of battery systems through these rebates, incentives and schemes. These subsidies in Western Australia are a terrific method for homeowners and companies to cut their energy costs and carbon impact.

By making it less expensive to install solar systems, the government is encouraging more individuals to invest in renewable energy and take steps to decrease their impact on the environment. Because subsidies are now easily accessible, this is a fantastic moment for businesses and households to consider installing a battery system on their property.
