Yingli Solar Trialing N-MWT Manufacturing Technology

Yingli Solar has announced it has begun trial production of monocrystalline solar panels incorporating N-type Metal-Wrap-Through ('N-MWT') technology.

Yingli Solar has announced it has begun trial production of monocrystalline solar panels incorporating N-type Metal-Wrap-Through (“N-MWT”) technology.

The company says N-MWT technology reduces power loss in the module encapsulation process and boosts cell efficiency by reducing the amount of metal used in each solar cell, which allows more of the solar cell’s surface area to be exposed to sunlight.

Equipment for the process has been provided by Italian company Formula E and has been installed at one of Yingli Green Energy’s workshops.

“We believe that cost reduction and technology improvement are critical to achieving our mission, which is to provide affordable green energy for all,” said Cindy Hu, Vice President & Technical Director of Yingli Green Energy. “These innovations in MWT technology are the result of our team’s strong partnership with Formula E.”

In other recent Yingli Solar news, the company announced it is providing engineering, procurement and construction services to the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) for a 5 MW solar power plant in the country.

Yingli will be one of the members of a four-party consortium responsible for the project; the other members being HYDROCHINA International Engineering Co., Ltd; Hebei Electric Power Design & Research Institute and Wattanasuk Engineering Co., Ltd.

Already under construction in Thap Sakae, Prachuap Khiri Khan Province  in southern Thailand, the project is expected to begin commercial operation in May 2015. 1MW of Yingli solar panels will be used in the project along with thin film modules from other suppliers.

Yingli Solar is the world’s largest manufacturer of solar modules and has shipped more than 30 million panels – over nine gigawatts – to customers in dozens of countries. It is a fully vertically integrated manufacturer; producing polysilicon, solar cells and fully assembled modules. Yingli is also a foundation partner of the Australian Solar Council’s Positive Quality program.
